Goku probably thought after defeating Boo that no villain ever could come even close to him, but then Beerus did.

A good lesson for Goku if you ask me that there is always someone stronger than you.
During Pre-Raditz Dragon Ball, Kame-senin attempted to drive home this point as much as possible to avoid Goku (or any of his students) becoming lethargic and accepting themselves as the strongest. He went to great lengths... the Jackie Chun disguise... asking Tien to take his place... but once Goku defeated Piccolo Jr, settled down, raised a family... he did exactly that.

5 years passed and no one could challenge Goku... but then Raditz appeared. That was the moment he learnt that there is always someone stronger and his attitude towards constant improvement was solidified. Not once from that moment on does Goku stop attempting to improve himself.
I never said he tried to not improve himself just that he got more confident after having defeated Boo. You can see that if you look at the scene & the way he talks got way over-confident.
And if his SSJ2 at that point was far beyond the strongest opponent he had ever faced... there'd be no reason not to be.
...or he just was over-confident, like i said.

the scene does seem to show it that way.

Vertical, you quoted the wrong person. Your post shows as you quoting me. I never said that. :p

EDIT:

StrawHat, you also fail to take into consideration that Beerus defeating SSJ3 Goku and Kaio informing Vegeta of such a thing sends one clear message: Beerus effortlessly defeated your strongest ally.

Why freak out if Gotenks and Gohan are both vastly superior?

They're not.

Yea, sorry about that. When I first quoted it something went wrong so I quickly jumped back, grabbed the "[quote=" text and pasted my stuff. Must've grabbed the wrong one.

Are you saying Ultimate Gohan/SSj 3 Gotenks are not superior to Goku/Vegeta? Or just not 1000x stronger like many people believe? I know BoG is a few years after Boo, but I can't see Goku/Vegeta closing the gap by then.

Personally, I have the Base Saiyan below Freeza, and U Gohan/SSj3 Gotenks about 5~ times stronger than SSj3 Goku.

This debate will never end though.

He'd freak out if Beerus was just that powerful.
